Vice President of Community Affairs and Advocacy

General Statement of Responsibilities

Vice President of Community Affairs and Advocacy promotes the mission of Rebuilding Respect for Women by building and mobilizing grassroots advocacy, interacting with policy makers and coalitions, and communicating the issues and priorities.

Grassroots Advocacy:
  • Expand and mobilize RRFW's grass roots network of advocates by organizing outreach to bring women into active advocacy roles.
  • Secure ongoing input from family members & professionals regarding pressing public policy issues.
  • Provide advocacy training to people with low self esteem, RRFW staff, board, and volunteers.
  • Write and disseminate various educational materials on public policy issues, including web content, Advocacy E-Updates, fact sheets, and newsletter articles.
Public Policy:
  • Educate legislators, submit testimony and regulatory comments as needed, and coordinate drafting of relevant legislation to ensure that relevant policy issues are sensitive to and inclusive of the needs of women.
  • Coordinate staff and volunteer participation in regulatory and legislative processes.
  • Work with the National Association public policy advocates to coordinate state and federal advocacy initiatives that are beneficial to women.
Community Relations:
  • Organize advocacy recruitment efforts
  • Present as a public speaker for community events including outreach to community and civic groups.
  • Assist with media responses, including identifying potential interview candidates from our base of advocates.
  • Other appropriate duties as assigned by the President and CEO.
Essential Job Requirements:
  • Experience in public policy/public affairs/community organizing activities with a nonprofit organization
  • Background and/or understanding of community organizing
  • Experience with legislative, regulatory and budget processes
  • BA/BS degree required with focus on political science, sociology, communications, or law preferred. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Excellent communicator
  • Experience in working with volunteers preferred
